Resistance … (Six Sentence Story #128)
The metal trunk was offering more resistance than originally thought. We’d mused that a squirt of WD40 into the locks was all that would be needed.
Mmm, not so – in fact with much huffing and puffing we fiddled around with various sized flat head screwdrivers, pushing against the locking mechanism at every which angle. Gosh this was getting ridiculous.
Dad had religiously kept his will, his birth certificate and every other important piece of paper, safe in this fire resistant box, which was stubbornly proving impervious to us too. Then, when we heard the click and excitedly threw back the lid, the emptiness swept over us in a tsunami of disappointment.

I didn’t expect the box to be empty. Nice ending.

Thanks Frank … this might turn into a series as I’ve been inspired by reading others in the 6SS – but then again it might not! 🤔

Oh, no. Is there another trunk, or is this Dad’s idea of a joke?

WD-40. Only the best invention ever!
Going to so much trouble, finally succeeding in opening the box only to find it empty. No mistaking the degree of disappointment with “tsunami of disappointment”. Excellent.
The big question now…where were all those important documents??

I guess it depends on Denise’s inspiration for next week’s SSS, Lisa … 😉

Excellent hook/twist on the narrative… engaging from the opening (essential)
…If I may: if you feel a serial in this Six, totally go for it… not having a prompt word first, actually can be a benefit in that you can have an installment written that propels the narrative, then the week’s word comes up and you need to find a way to ‘work it in’ and that’s where the fun starts,

Excellent six! That slow tension build up… then the wonderful spin on the ‘what’s in box’ theme… and inside it, nothing! Ouch.
Bravo 🙂

Bummer! But great Six! I’ve always been fascinated by locked trunks, pirate chests, and the like. Maybe not so much now LOL.
