The Sales Funnel
The Sales Funnel metaphor is where all your prospects are tipped into the top and only the heavy weight yeses make their way down the funnel and come out the end as cash in the till. Each sales funnel will be peculiar to the individual business but to start with we have a simple template to ascertain the data you need to ascertain to measure success.

1. Recognise the basic data in your own business that will help you understand your sales process
2. Use the sales funnel template to populate your data. When you know what you need to achieve your profit/sales growth you can work the way up the funnel to identify the leads that need to be generated to achieve the results.
3. Consider what other data might help you understand the sales funnel in your business
Of course, leads can leak out of your funnel at any stage. When you collect data you can question at what point the loss is happening, in comparison to your plan.
