Peninsula (Song Lyric Sunday + Blogtober #24)

There was really nothing in, what I thought was, my eclectic music taste to meet with today’s prompt. So last night I took a tour around YouTube, waking up this morning listening to Iron Maiden. 🤣 But before I dropped off I found two bands I had never heard of – both I am going to share with you here. The second track is fairly tenuous but the video is such fun and perfect for this time of year, so if you have time to watch the two – I think you’ll enjoy.

First off is Peninsula by Dinosaur Pile-Up

Dinosaur Pile-Up is an English alternative rock band formed in late 2007, hailing from Leeds, West Yorkshire. It offers a tribute to its influences from bands like Foo Fighters, Weezer, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and Pavement, rock acts from the 60s like The Beach Boys and The Beatles, and metal groups such as Slayer and Deftones.

Matt Bigland has said he thought of the name ‘Dinosaur Pile-Up’ after watching the 2005 film King Kong. “… there was this part in it where this stampede of dinosaurs, the front one is shot in the leg or something, and it trips up, and then all these huge dinosaurs trip up, roll down this hill, and it just ends up in this massive pile up, and everything in between them survives. I thought it was ridiculous, and as a joke I said, I have to start a band called Dinosaur Pile-Up.”

In 2013, the 2nd album ‘Nature Nurture’, was released in the UK. To coincide with the band’s debut U.S. tour they released a video for this song ‘Peninsula’.

Strange wind surrounds us

Here at the peninsula

Thank God you found us

We could become friends

Or whatever whatever whatever

Creatures in the dust

Bigger than a killer whale

Came here to teach us

We can learn their secrets together together together

Be what you want

Say what you feel

Do what you please

Take what you got

Do it whatever

Leave it behind

Do it for real

Keep it in mind

Make it a deal

Do it forever

Want you to know

I don’t care what you say

Want you to know

That I’ll get there someday

Strange times around us

Better yeah I wish you were

Dreams under the dust

We can still be friends

Yeah whatever whatever whatever

Machines above us

Living on a different plain

Came here to breed us

We should go and visit

Together together together

Be what you want

Say what you feel

Do what you please

Take what you got

Do it whatever

Leave it behind

Do it for real

Keep it in mind

Make it a deal

Do it forever

Want you to know

I don’t care what you say

Want you to know

That I’ll get there someday

Hallways by Islands

Islands is an indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I did say the link is tenuous! But the tune is good and the video amusing. I can barely understand the meaning in the lyrics so if anyone has any ideas – would love to hear what you think this tune is about!?! (PS I recommend you skip the first 50 second which is a prequel to the song itself!)

Wait to get to your room

Hallways

Always waiting

Feels like I’ve been waiting for days

In these hallways

Wait, wait, wait

Wait, wait, wait

Wait, wait, wait

Walls cave

Turns refuse to waste

Hallways

Knock, knock knock

Broken lock

I’ll just wait in hallway

Decent smoke wait, oh (?)

This can be a pleasurable phase

Walls cave

Turns refuse to waste

Hallways

Walls cave

Turns refuse to waste

Hallways

In the hallways

Can she turns to you to say

Always
