Field – (Six Sentence Story#129)
“Oh dear” – she mumbled into her chest … “Dad bought a brand new shiny box a couple of years ago, it’s under the stairs, all his private papers will be in there; didn’t he tell you girls that?”
“Thanks Mum (for nothing; as we dragged the extraordinarily heavy box out) … any idea what the four digit code might be?” Yep … of course not – flustered; she flicked through piles of her own papers, shuffling and shifting them from one side of her desk to the other.
With an inspired grasp, my sister spun the dials and voila – the lid was lifted; the much sort after will was right there on top! She picked it up and scanned the handwritten content on the front page; nodded as she turned it over, then her face fell through the floor.
The date field had not been filled in – whatever next?

Good six. This happens more often than you might think.
My own will is so outdated I think it still has a guardian for the kids who are now 35 and nearly 32!!! Oh well, they can figure it out right Again, good six.

Illness and death kind of sneaks up on people, and some things never seem to get done even though they have good intentions. There is a lesson in your SSS.

Always the minor details that trip us up, eh? 😀
I like your use of the prompt word!

nicely suspenseful Six… in a ‘slowly I turned…’ kind of way.

My will was pretty much out of date the moment I signed it. 🤪The way things are going it might have been quicker if Dad hadn’t had a will at all!!!!

There is indeed … double check! Even the most fastidious of Dads can get things wrong!!

Thanks Denise … Last week, I was skeptical whether my imagination would be able to stretch out this story, let alone use the prompt. If I can get one more next week, it will be a trilogy! 🤣
