Belbin’s Team Roles
Most organic business growth involves the founder of the business juggling the majority of the roles, doing some well and … when finances prevailed outsourcing those that they could no longer fudge. However, there comes a time when proper skills planning becomes essential for planned business growth. Here are two tools that you may find useful when considering who you have in your business now and what you may need in the future. The first is a Personnel Chart, the second an introduction to Belbin’s Team Roles.
Feel free to request the templates firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m happy to share.
1. Plan out who currently does what in your business and to whom they report
2. Create an organisational plan that links to your business plan for growth
3. Identify the skills gaps, and consider whether you will recruit or replace or retrain
4. Don’t forget to ensure you have an appropriate balance in soft skills … visit Belbin’s Team Roles where you can complete an assessment online
Please share your experiences with this model in the comments below. I am building a portfolio of small business case studies and would love to include examples of what has worked well for you.
