Where I End and You Begin – (Song Lyric Sunday)
Hail to the Thief (2003), is a Radiohead album with lyrics supposedly inspired by the War on Terror, from it I have chosen Where I End and You Begin.
Radiohead are an English rock band formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), brothers Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments) and Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O’Brien (guitar, backing vocals) and Philip Selway (drums, percussion). They have worked with producer Nigel Godrich and cover artist Stanley Donwood since 1994. Radiohead’s experimental approach is credited with advancing the sound of alternative rock.

Where I End and You Begin is the sixth track, a bassline-driven rock song. it was written in 1998 when Jonny Greenwood and Yorke holidayed together in Israel. Selway and Colin Greenwood’s rhythm section was influenced by the band New Order. So there are ‘other’ theories to the meaning of these bizarre lyrics. I had an amusing fifteen minute read through of the analytical comments on Genius. Do check them out for yourself as you listen to the song.
There’s a gap in between
There’s a gap where we meet
Where I end and you begin
And I’m sorry for us
The dinosaurs roam the earth
The sky turns green
Where I end and you begin
(4, 5, 6, 7)
I am up in the clouds
I am up in the clouds
And I can’t, and I can’t come down
I can watch and not take part
Where I end and where you start
Where you, you left me alone
You left me alone
X will mark the place
Like the parting of the ways
Like a house falling in the sea
In the seaI will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
And there’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
And there’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
And there’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
There’ll be no more lies
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive
I will eat you alive

And just because these lyrics don’t include the word – thought I’d finish with this PS and end with The Jam. This is where I began with today’s Song Lyric Sunday search … but really didn’t think it would be enough! 🤪
Post inspired by Jim’s Song Lyric Sunday Prompt – This week we have the of prompts Begin/End/Finish/Start. Click through for the rules if you too would like to join in …

Nice songs for the prompts Laura. I know some Radiohead songs, but this one is new to me and I love the bass guitar in it. It is easy to distinguish the bass line in the Jam song Start was borrowed from The Beatles “Taxman,” and The Jam was surprised that there was never a court case.

I loved your Choi e Laura. I found the music so haunting that I disregarded the crazy lyrics, ☺️ I hadn’t heard this before. Thanks for giving me something new today.
