Stop The Clocks – (Song Lyric Sunday)
Written in 2001 by Noel Gallagher, Stop the Clocks, didn’t make it onto any Oasis album, despite their having released a compilation in 2006 with the same name. It had been muted that it might be a bonus track, but it was not to be.
It was, however, the last track on the first album released in 2009 by High Flying Birds; the band fronted by Noel and included several of Oasis’s previous band members.

Stop the clocks and turn the world around, let your love lay me down
And when the night is over there’ll be no sound
Lock the box and leave it all behind on the backseat of my mind
And when the night is over where will I rise?
What if I’m already dead, how would I know?
What if I’m already dead, how would I know?
Lost inside my head behind a wall, do they hear me when I call?
And when the night is over where will I fall?
And when the fight is over where will I fall?
What if I’m already dead, how would I know?
What if I’m already dead, how would I know?
Stop the clocks and turn the world around, let your love lay me down
And when the night is over there’ll be no sound
And when the night is over there’ll be no sound
And now the night is over there’ll be no sound, sound…

Songwriters: Noel Gallagher
Noel told Tokyo‘s J-Wave radio station that it’s about, “A dream I had one night. It’s wondering about if you were dead, how would you know you were actually dead, how would you know you were actually alive. When you go to bed and you dream dreams… if you never woke up, how would you know?” At Glastonbury 2004, in a BBC three interview Noel said that the track was seven minutes long and would probably never be performed live because it was, “just me and an acoustic guitar and lots of backwards stuff and it’s something to be listened to when one is very high”.
However, it had been performed live the year previously at the Zanzibar club in Liverpool, with Gem Archer and Terry Kirkbridge. If you’re intrigued, then this is the 2003 live recording. If I am honest I agree with Noel – my preference is with the album version …

Thanks Jim, I was very tempted to go with Waiting for the Man – Velvet Underground (there is a Bowie duet version but thought … I might over play the Bowie card)… I do like other artists and genres … honest!
