Contingency Planning

The purpose of a contingency plan is to help you think through what your business might need in the calm before a storm arises.  It provides a list of things you will need to access in the event on an emergency that can be kept handy and where anyone can find it.  So that you can respond immediately to a situation, thereby minimising damage to your business, down time and negative publicity.  That’s a lot to be said for thinking through potential scenarios.

Watch the video for background information about Contingency Planning, feel free to request the templates laura@thehiddenedge.co.uk. I am happy to share.

  1. Consider the five aspects to Contingency Planning:  prevention, mitigation, preparation, response and recovery

2. Use the template to plot the information, boundaries, levers & decisions

3. Use Business-Docs 5 S Disaster Recovery to think through the sort of scenarios that are most likely to have an impact on your business continuity

4. Create your own template or download this one from Business Docs for less than £15k

Please do share your experiences with these models in the comments below.  I am building a portfolio of small business case studies and would love to include examples of what has worked well for you.
