Weekly Smile – (3TC #489)
Last week, if I am honest, there wasn’t too much to smile about; there was an awful lot of angst one way or another. What’s more, whilst most of the country managed a beautiful dusting of snow this weekend … living on the South Coast, we didn’t get the pleasure of even one, solitary, flake.
Today’s weekly smile is more to do with looking forward. It is, of course, Burns Night and, as an adopted Scot – Haggis has become a tradition on the 25th January. Yesterday, I dusted off the kilt, dug out a pair of thick tights and my ballet pumps.
I look like I am just about to go on stage for a performance of La Sylphide, I’m not talking about my looking like the winged spirit you understand. This is me putting on my hat ready for the big night – in.
Today, is the day that my Mum who’s 90 this Saturday, gets her Covid 19 vaccination. Phewee!
And today, is the day that the shower gets fixed for the final time??? I do wonder if I am asking for too much – but I am a strong believer in the power of three. 🤞
Tomorrow night, Boyfriend’s youngest comes home from sea. He’s been away since November. In his room, there are so many Amazon parcels (where he’s been bored on board), that I feel the need to set up my Dad’s Christmas tree. Something else to look forward to … it’s not like we can go to the pub!
Anyway, I feeling quite mellow – just one more week until the end of the longest month. Then I’ll be looking forward to making a song and dance about the Chinese New Year, Valentine’s and Pancake Day.
The Raptures of Folly
The greybeard, old Wisdom! may boast of his treasures;
Give me with gay Folly to live;
I grant him his calm-blooded, time-settled pleasures,
But Folly has raptures to give.
– Robert Burns
