Edward de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats and Facilitation
Whilst successful negotiation relies heavily on you being prepared, there are skills you can adopt to help facilitate the discussion, proposal and bargaining processes. I love Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats as a simple framework. It helps all those involved in the negotiation to keep the meeting focussed on the objectives without causing offence.
Feel free to request the templates firstname.lastname@example.org. I am happy to share.
1. Review the video to recognise the four stages in the negotiation process and how the Six Thinking Hats can help you facilitate the meeting
2. Use the negotiation prep sheet to ensure you have a 360 degree consideration of the negotiation process, meeting and outcomes
3. Practice using the Six Thinking Hats in your internal meetings so that you feel comfortable managing and facilitating a negotiation meeting
Please do share your experiences with this model in the comments below. I am building a portfolio of small business case studies and would love to include examples of what has worked well for you.
