Weekly Smile – (3TC #524)
What a lovely start to the weekend, the glorious Snow Moon that seemed close enough to touch on Friday night and then that superb Sahara sunrise. Both boded well for a double day in the garden to top up the vitamin D levels.
We were both game this week, so we got up early and got cracking. We repositioned the gooseberries and honeysuckle that needed more space; the marjoram and garlic chives that just looked lost where they were. We planted; two artichokes that had been nurtured in the greenhouse over winter, two troughs of chipped potatoes, and two troughs of red onion bulbs.
Not wishing to be admonished for planting late, like last year, Boyfriend, dutifully sowed the mangetout seeds. We do like a mangetout in late spring, don’t you?
Then, we took to the shears and wrestled with the shrubs and bushes, clipping away dead wood and straggling branches. We ended up with two huge bags of debris to take to the dump. To be fair, the olive tree needed a bit more than just a trim and at the moment the poor thing looks like it might have had one of those lopsided feather cuts from the 70’s. But I’m sure we won’t notice the shorn look, this time next month?
I launched the new solar-powered fountain in the birdbath and it bubbled away, quite gently, keeping us company, all day, both days. It managed to catch the attention of several neighbours who stopped to remark upon our diligence, over the picket fence.
‘Perfick’ as Pop Larkin would say! ‘Perfick’!

Gardening is the most rewarding and relaxing of all tasks. Sounds wonderful!

I have never heard of mangetout, so when I Googled it, I discovered it is what we call “snow peas”. A little early for gardening here, but sounds liek you are getting a good start on spring.

I loved the ‘Darling Buds of May’ series. And Only Fools and Horses. Don’t make TV series like that now 😦
