Weekly Smile – (3TC #461)
We had a family get together on Boxing Day to bring Christmas joy to eight homes on both sides of the world. Five, here, in the UK at 10 in the morning and our cousins from three locations in New South Wales at 9 in the evening. Even my 90 year old Mum, currently self isolating, managed to make an appearance; not that she made a huge contribution.
I had spent three hours with her online during the week, trying to teach her how to join us on Google Meet. Unlike some of the other video Apps, Google Meet has ‘closed captions’ which means she can read what is being said. She has always been hard of hearing and quite used to watching TV programmes with subtitles. It seemed ideal?
Sadly, she mislaid all the prior learning in the excitement of seeing the entire family. She kept pressing the wrong buttons. It gave us all a bit of a laugh though. Whilst it’s not the same as being in spitting distance of folk; we are so thankful for the technology that allows us to connect.

How wonderful Laura. I spoke to my brother in NZ via Skype on Christmas Eve/their Christmas morning. It was terrific to see them.

So good! And to be honest, if we were in bigger clusters there wouldn’t be time to catch up like this. “Looking on the bright side of life”.

Very cool that you could meet with family on the other side of the world! My parents are in their mid-80s, but do OK with it, as long as it is simple 😉 Hope you have a good New Year!
