Paradox – (Weekend Writing Prompt #184)

“He said, he thought you were cocky.”

“Mmm” I replied with a straight face … “I’d prefer to think it is pure hubris.”

My boss looked at me in disbelief, shocked by the sheer paradox in my utterance.  

A rogue twinkle in my eye belied my countenance and the boss collapsed.  After he’d finished chortling, he blew his nose loudly, and we set about devising a plan to restore my pristine image.
