Weekly Smile – (3TC #664)

Huge smile yesterday and a fair few chuckles during the first half of The Duke’s Theatre Company and its adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. This is the first independent theatre tour we have been to see for far too long. The first snort was when the fiddler arrived on stage as a busker dressed in a duvet jacket, bobble hat and scarf; when the entire audience was shading beneath the trees on what has been the hottest day of the year. 😅

This is a new theatre company and this is their very first tour. I do believe the six-man team had every single member of the audience enraptured in the story by their huge energy and enthusiasm. The petty but amusing disagreements between the Montagues and Capulets, turn in the second half from the comedic to tragic; with Romeo’s father demonstrating spectacular ire at his son’s love of fair Juliet. 😧

In case you didn’t know … (spoiler alert) – Shakespeare’s story doesn’t end well. This was, however, a fabulous day out at Kingston Maurward College with best friends and a picnic to boot! Happy sigh 😊
