I worked for a company that measured twelve key performance indicators each month. It was an interesting time and the focus of attention on the key performances ensured a period of significant growth in sales and profitability. But generating a dirty dozen key performance indicators isn't necessarily the answer to keeping business focus. Most people can't focus on more than three at anyone time.
