Weekly Smile – (3TC #407)

I have been randomly blogging for many years, and had the remarkable readership of 38 ‘avid’ followers! As a Toastmaster, I’d often thought blogging would help me build confidence in delivering great ‘Table Topic speeches’ (a 1-2 minutes talk on an adhoc subject). But I found I lacked a vivid enough imagination to keep the posting momentum up.

When lockdown happened mid March, and we were stuck at home for what should have been the Italy v. England 6 nations rugby final in Rome; I took a virtual tour around WordPress Reader and found a post for a ‘Discover Prompt’ activity throughout April. Brilliant! Just what I needed.

I found it quite tough to start with, but encouraged by the likes and comments which brighten my day, I have kept going. This week, I received notification that I now have 200 wonderful followers.

I am in awe of those who can write multiple posts on a daily basis, and keep connected with their networks with more than 1000 followers. A future vision maybe; in the meantime, I very happy with my progress and I have the hugest, ear-to-ear grin!!

  1. I only started posting daily at the start of lockdown. It was very deliberate – posting daily is just another way of saying “I’m okay”. I know there’s not a great deal we can do if anybody does have a problem, you get to know people on here and it is comforting to know they are okay. And keep up with the blogging – the next thing that will improve is your editing ability and I’m sure that’ll lead to interesting 1-2 minute speeches.

  2. Congratulations! There are a few challenges that I like to participate in – for me as a writer, it is great practice as well as inspiration for new stories. That they also help drive up number of visits and new followers is a side benefit 🙂
